When the moon hatched - Sarah A. Parker
I’ll be honest the giant glossary (which I used like I was studying for finals) had me wondering what I was getting into with this book. 20% in I wondered when it would all make sense, and by the end of the book I was sobbing and googling when the next book would be released.
You’re dropped into Raeve’s world in the middle of a scene. You have no idea what’s going on and it appears that honestly Raeve also knows minimal about what’s going on as well. She appears to be an assassin with a hatred for authority and those who wield it. Of course on her way to bring a corrupt, vile human being down she meets a handsome stranger…
After singing with the voice of an angel it seems, she narrows in on her target and proceeds to lure him to his death. An unfortunate run in the stranger has her plotting his demise as well. She decides that cutting him up into little pieces is too time consuming and lets him leave. She seems to have an infatuation with a moon, which fyi guys the moons are dead dragons and WOW, the way I sob over that little tid bit.
She returns home and cuddles with a letter. Sent to her when she had no idea who it was meant for. Only to wake up to her world crumbling around her. Hellbent on revenge she does the opposite of what everyone has advised her to do, because baby girl has nothing to lose. Finding herself on the losing end and behind bars she braces herself for her imminent demise. But wait, is that the handsome stranger again??
“Survival’s funny. Some wear it like a whisper, others like a scream.”
From there the plot moves rapidly and you began to piece things together probably a lot faster than Raeve does. Kaan, honestly deserves a medal because the shadowy stranger has to tolerate a lot. A LOT. But by 75% my heart was just aching and by the end I was emotionally unwell.
“A small mercy that was not bestowed upon herself many cycles ago.”
